We realize that this living in Thailand thing makes typical baby stuff much more difficult for our American friends and family. We probably won't really be able to have a shower and paying a bunch of extra money in shipping doesn't really make sense.
We have, however, come up with a list of things we plan to buy and bring home with us from America . The goal is to get it while we are home and bring it back with us, so we don’t have to pay for shipping. Since this is stuff we will be buying one way or the other, it makes a nice gift list.
Cloth Diapers
Yes, Neils and I have decided to venture into the cloth diapering world. We’ve been doing tons of research and have decided that we want to give it a whirl. It seems to be most cost efficient option and the best for baby. However, it does mean a substantial start up investment. Here’s what we’re thinking.
Diapers:
These diapers come highly recommended from a few of our most trusted cloth diaper friends. They are 100% cotton, extremely durable and multi purpose.
1. Newborn setup kit - http://greenmountaindiapers.com/packages.htm $207
2. 1 dozen prefolds size small (yellow edge) diapers - http://greenmountaindiapers.com/diapers.htm $28
3. 2 dozen medium prefolds size medium http://greenmountaindiapers.com/diapers.htm $64 (or $32/dozen)
Covers:
1. Six Bummis Super Whisper wraps size small http://greenmountaindiapers.com/covers.htm#Bummisw $78 (or $13 each) (we like the froggies, jungle, celery dots and the white with velcro)
2. Six Bummis Super Whisper wraps size medium http://greenmountaindiapers.com/covers.htm#Bummisw $78 (or $13 each) (we like the froggies, jungle, celery dots and the white with velcro)
Accessories:
1. Triple pack Snappis http://greenmountaindiapers.com/other.htm#Snappis $8
2. 2 Wet pail liners (Mother’s touch, size large) http://greenmountaindiapers.com/other.htm#Snappis $40 (or $20 each) (this is a conservative number, we may end up needing more) (we like celery, lilac, safari and flights of fancy)
3. 2 Wet bags (Mother’s touch, one regular, one large) http://greenmountaindiapers.com/other.htm#Snappis $27 (or $ $13 for regular, $14 for large) we like lilac, flights of fancy, celery, chocolate brown, safari or mango)
Breast Feeding
If you do want to buy one new, it certainly doesn't have to be from Target. That's just where I did my research.
Medicine
Medicine was a recommendation from a friend from the U.K. that lives here. I don't really know what else we might need besides Children's Tylenol, so feel free to make suggestions.
1. Children’s Tylenol – a big enough supply for 10 months
2. Other essentials???
Misc:
1. Books – hard cover for newborns/babies, i.e. brightly colored, books with textures, books for bath, etc. English books are pretty hard to come by, and we can't read Thai. :)
2. Baby Monitor – nothing fancy. Our house isn’t exactly sound proof, but just a little something for night time.
3. Rain cover for stroller – We have the Chicco Cortina Travel system
So, if you are interested in getting a baby present for us, choosing from this list would be most helpful! Please let us know if you do decide to purchase any of this stuff, so we don't duplicate. You can either have things shipped to one of our parents’ house or just hold on to it for when we see you. We plan to put in our order for cloth diapers within the next few weeks so they can be shipped and ready for us when we get to America. The rest of the stuff we will likely shop for while in America .
It’s never easy to ask for presents. Please understand that we do not expect presents at all. We are merely trying to be helpful for those who want to buy us something we can put to good use.
We are counting down the days and are getting very excited to see you all!
Hope you are well!
hey im going to get some books and stuff
