Today was Neils’ first day of fourth grade. Ah…they grow up so fast. ;-)
He was a little nervous this morning as he headed out of the door, but all in all I think he felt like he had a successful day. Mid morning he poked his head into my office and told me that his math lesson went well. He also had, what seemed to me, like a pretty impressive science lesson planned, complete with Google images of space. His response to how that went was “Eh.” He said some of the kids really liked it, but it’s hard to get 22 kids engaged. However, I am confident that he will figure out a way to get most of the kids engaged for most of the time, because he is going to be an excellent teacher. He is enthusiastic about the material and puts a lot of time and energy into planning. Plus, he’s smart so, that will help!
I went to school today as well, but I don’t actually have students until June 1st. I planned my first week of lessons and am going to sit down with the Thai teachers tomorrow to do some more planning. Then we are going to decorate the room! Woot!
Over the weekend we headed up to Ai Khiao, another waterfall close to where we live, with some of our friends. Ai Khiao is probably prettier than Promlock, but the swimming areas are quite as abundant. It was super hot, so it was a great way to beat the heat and it's always nice to be social.
