2 Years of Wedded Bliss

At the end of May, Neils and I celebrated our second wedding anniversary. It was during the week, but we decided to take a weekend and go to one of our favorite places in Thailand, Ao Nong Krabi. It's only about 3 hours away from where we live, and since we now have a car we were able to drive ourselves. This is something that everyone at home may take for granted, but once you've been reliant upon public transportation to get you every where for over a year, it sure seemed like some crazy luxury to us!

We stayed at a nice hotel with a lovely swimming pool. It is owned and operated by a really lovely Thai man named Sun. When we arrived, he actually came up  to the car, greeted us by saying "You must be Teacher Kara" and then showed us where to park. Our room was nice, the pool was beautiful and the staff were crazy friendly.

The first day, we didn't arrive until about 4pm so we took advantage of the pool, ventured out for some farang food, stopped at pub so Neils could have a real beer and then headed back to the room to get some sleep.

The second day, we were a little busier. We got up, ate breakfast at McDonald's (this is a real treat since there aren't very many of them), grabbed coffee at Starbucks (another big treat) and headed out to lay on the beach of Railay. Railay is a stretch of beach that you can only get to by long tail boat. It is known world wide for it's rock climbing so you can just about imagine how beautiful it is. It is a beautiful beach surrounded by giant limestone cliffs covered in jade colored vegetation dropped all in an absolutely gorgeous aqua blue green ocean. We spent the majority of our day collecting UVs and soaking up salt water.

We left Railay in time to get home, shower, take a quick nap and then head out for our Thai cooking lesson. Since we were in Krabi during the low season, we were actually able to have this cooking lesson all to ourselves. The owner picked us up at our hotel, drove us to his kitchen and customized our evening. Normally, you do all the cooking at once and then all the eating at the end, but since the pregnant lady needed to eat, we were able to break it into two parts. We cooked several dishes, ate several dishes and went home completely stuffed!

On Sunday, we got up, showered, packed, checked out, got breakfast and coffee at Starbucks one last time, wondered around town for a bit, got Burger King and headed home.

It was quick but it was really lovely.
