Adventures in Parenting: The Poop Chronicles

We had such an exciting day yesterday that I thought I would share it with you.

First, we all woke up tired because Miss Leona did NOT sleep well at all the night before. I also woke up with some pretty major breast pain. I have mastitis again, because apparently I have the most sensitive breasts in the whole wide world. When I'm done providing nourishment for my daughter, I might just lop them off completely.

We took family photos yesterday at a studio in town, but due to Leo's lack of sleep and her increased in fussiness lately, she cried through the entire shoot. The only time she would not cry is when there was a bottle in her mouth, despite being fed immediately prior to leaving the house. So, we would give her the bottle, get all situated, yank the bottle out of her mouth while simultaneously smiling for the camera. As you can imagine, this led to sub par pictures. We picked out two that are acceptable. In one of those she's asleep.

After our photo shoot, we headed to the grocery store. There's a place right outside where you can get your car washed, so we dropped it off for an inside/outside cleaning and headed in. Neils, being the fabulous father that he is, put her in the Baby Bjorn and carried her around the store. We were getting close to the end of our shopping and discussing where we were going to have lunch when Leona had a major blowout. She pooped all over herself, in her pretty picture dress, the Baby Bjorn and Daddy. It was seriously so bad that we laid a mat down and changed her on the floor in the middle of the aisle, because she was dripping poop everywhere! While we did this, we attracted a large crowd of Thai shoppers, who stopped, stared and said "narok" (cute) over and over. Yes yes, please gather around, because having a crowd is just what we need while trying to quickly change and clean a baby and the area within a 5ft radius of the baby! And seriously? "Quick come see the little white baby poop all over her parents and the store...how cute!" Some cultural differences are just unexplainable.

After we got her cleaned up, we decided that we would finish our shopping and then go directly home, since daddy was poop streaked. We finished shopping and checked out without incident only to find out that our car would not be ready for another 20 minutes. So poopy daddy and his family grabbed some lunch at KFC.

We went home, fed the baby and took a nice long family nap. That nap was pretty much the only redeeming part of the day.

The evening was basically a cry fest. Neils ran back to town to get me some antibiotics and Leo cried anytime she was set down. I got her to sleep probably seven times, set her down to eat some dinner, only for her to be awake 2 minutes later crying her eyes out.

Ah the joys!

Today, we aren't going anywhere. We are going to focus on nursing away this mastitis and getting our over tired daughter well rested again.
